About Dr. Sharon Bratt
Academic leader in pedagogical strategy and institutional teaching excellence
I am currently on administrative leave from MacEwan University until October 31, 2026.
Strategic Impact & Institutional Leadership
I’m a seasoned academic leader who has led transformative change in higher education, most recently as Associate Dean, Teaching and Learning. I designed and led initiatives that positioned teaching excellence and faculty development as strategic institutional priorities.
As architect of a reimagined post-pandemic Centre for Teaching and Learning, I unified digital learning and teaching support into an integrated hub for faculty development and scholarly teaching. I also launched Pedagogical Inquiry and Practice, Canada’s first open-access SoTL journal focused on undergraduate education.
My experience includes leading LMS migrations, designing educational leadership pathways, aligning teaching awards with strategic priorities, and hosting national academic development events. This work continues to shape how I approach institutional partnership, academic leadership, and systems-level change.
How I Work
I bring a systems-thinking lens and a collaborative mindset to academic leadership and institutional change. My work focuses on building capacity, designing frameworks, and integrating teaching and learning into institutional planning.
Colleagues value my ability to translate institutional priorities into actionable programs—and to support faculty and teams in delivering meaningful, measurable impact.
The Story Behind the Work
My path into higher education began unexpectedly—what I thought was a short-term teaching job turned into a 28-year career. Early on, I discovered that my deepest impact came not just from teaching students, but from helping colleagues grow in their practice and confidence.
That discovery has shaped everything I’ve done since. Whether designing institutional frameworks or mentoring academic leaders, my work has always been about building structures that help people and ideas thrive.
Today
Today, my work continues to focus on academic development and pedagogical leadership, grounded in sustainable, relational, and evidence-informed practice.
